The Edmonton Oilers have signed free agent forward Jack Roslovic, and his contract includes a unique clause that may have a big impact.
Edmonton Oilers contract with Jack Roslovic includes unique no move clause
According to an update from experts at PuckPedia, Roslovic's contract includes just a full no-move clause. It then turns into a 4 team trade list, and he cannot be waived.
It's a unique situation that basically ensures that Roslovic will get a look in the Oilers lineup before November 1st, but if he doesn't fit in the lineup, the Oilers may be able to work out a trade later. However, a 4 team trade list is extremely restrictive. Roslovic will essentially dictate a trade location.
The Oilers did get one concession in the contract though, as NHL insiders have reported that Roslovic took a cheaper deal to play for Edmonton.
Signing an NHL veteran like Roslovic now to such a cheap contract is an extremely unusual situation, but clearly makes their team better and adds crucial secondary scoring.
The 28 year old right shot centreman has played 526 career games for 4 different teams, and even put up 22 goals last year. He should be a solid addition to their bottom six group.
Hopefully he does fit well with the Oilers, because they'll have a difficult time moving him if it doesn't. We'll see how he fits when joining the team later this week.
