Connor McDavid arguably had a down year last season offensively, and it could be largely tied to him shooting far less than usual.
In the prime of his career, McDavid dropped to 100 points last season with 26 goals - his lowest totals in both categories since his sophomore season. This year,
McDavid said to Sportsnet that he wants to get back to being a prolific goal scoring threat.
«I want to prove that scoring 50 or 60 (goals) is not a one-off. I've had 50 goals, and I've had 100 assists, and I like the goals a little bit more.»

Connor McDavid is shooting far less than his Rocket Richard-Trophy season
When McDavid has put out such a bold declaration in the past, he's always followed up with a noticeable improvement over the season. If the best player in the world wants to score more goals, he will. But he'll need to be shooting a lot more.
Analytics experts at SportLogiq dove into the numbers, and found that McDavid recorded far less shots, scoring chances, and one-timers than his 2022-23 season.
Part of McDavid's decline in scoring last year was attributed to drop offs from both of his primary linemates,
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and
Zach Hyman. The two veterans are now approaching their mid-30s and will begin to slow down more.
These stats show that McDavid has his part of it too, and will want to increase his looks around the net.
Of course the Oilers will also want to get McDavid under contract this season, but there's still ultimate confidence from top insiders that he isn't leaving Edmonton. Instead, he's just focused on the upcoming year.
Hopefully McDavid gets signed soon, and he can live up to his goals of matching his 60-goal year once again.
