Team Canada provides first update on Sidney Crosby injury vs. Czechia

Thai is the worst case scenario for Canada, as Crosby would absolutely fight through any injury to represent his country at the Olympics. If he’s unable to return in a tied elimination game, he’s fighting through a tough injury.

Midways through the second period, Crosby took a hit from Radko Gudas while reaching for a puck in the neutral zone. His leg buckled underneath him, and after one other hit on the same shift, he hobbled back to the locker room.

UPDATE: As of now, Team Canada is expected to have an announcement on Crosby’s injury status Thursday after medical imaging in Milan.

As stated previously, Crosby must be dealing with a serious injury to not return for an elimination game for Team Canada. He’s a 38 year old veteran and warrior who’s pushed through many injuries in his career - so it must be near impossible for him to play now.

If Crosby is ruled out of today’s game, it will call into question his status for the rest of the tournament. Especially with games in short succession for the rest of the bracket rounds, it seems very questionable he’d be able to return to play.

Without Crosby, and with Nathan MacKinnon also clearly playing through injury, Team Canada has been knocked down a peg compared to their opponents. They’ll need every other player to raise their game to meet the moment and lift their team to the Gold Medal match.

All eyes will now be turning to Connor McDavid. Canada’s phenom and probable next Captain needs to take on the leadership role in the absence of Crosby and take over the lost play from their leader.

Hopefully Canada can provide another update on Crosby shortly after today’s game, but first, Canada needs to win today against Czechia - or their dreams of Olympic Gold will be over.
