Team Canada may have suffered a brutal loss as Sidney Crosby hobbled to the locker room after a scary collision with Czechia defenceman Radko Gudas.
Crosby is the Captain of Canada, the leader of our team, and still a superstar at 38 years old. Losing him for any time would be disastrous for Team Canada at the Olympics.
Sidney Crosby leaves game vs. Czechia after leg buckles from Gudas hit
Midway through the second period, Crosby was attempting to play a puck while Gudas stepped in for a hit behind him. Crosby was caught in an awkward position reaching for the puck, and his leg totally buckled underneath him.
After one more hit seconds after on the same shift, Crosby was in clear discomfort and left the bench after a short chat with the team trainer.
Broadcasters speculated that it could be a groin injury given Crosby’s awkward position during the hit from Gudas.
For Sidney Crosby to leave any Team Canada game during the Olympics, he must be in pain to the point where continuing to play would be near impossible. He’s a warrior that’s played through injury before many times in his career, so this must be a serious issue. Seeing him hobble to the locker room was a brutal sight.
In addition, Nathan MacKinnon appears to be playing hurt after he appeared to tweak something in their game against France. If Team Canada is without two of their superstars, they’ll be in a very difficult spot for the rest of the tournament.
If Crosby is out for any amount of time, Team Canada will have to lean a little harder on Connor McDavid.
Still down in today’s game against Czechia, Canada needs to dig deep to overcome the loss of Crosby and fight their way to the Gold Medal.
