All of Canada was stunned today when Captain Sidney Crosby went down with injury in what could be his final Olympics.
So far, the injury for Crosby doesn’t look good. He was unable to fight through the issue to return in a tied elimination game, and sports doctors online are pessimistic he’ll be able to return at all - and now insiders know when the final decision will be revealed.
Team Canada will confirm Crosby’s Olympic status before semifinal game
According to a new update from TSN insider Pierre LeBrun, Team Canada is expected to make an announcement on Crosby’s status Thursday, one day before their semifinal game against Finland.
It bodes well that Canada will provide an update on Crosby well before the semifinal, as it seems like he’s not immediately ruled out for the tournament - but they’re taking their time with medical imaging and tests.
It’s a massive blow for Canada to lose Crosby for any time during the tournament. He’s the leader of their locker room, has experience scoring an Olympic-winning goal earlier in his career, and is key to lengthen their lineup as an elite third line centre option.
Without Crosby and with MacKinnon clearly playing through an injury he sustained against France, Canada is no question a weaker team than when they began the tournament.
But even if he’s not on the ice, Crosby can provide that leadership to Team Canada. During the second intermission after being knocked out with the injury, Crosby still spoke up in the locker room to rally the team to a winning result.
All Team Canada fans will be holding their breath awaiting the news on Sidney Crosby. At 38 years old, this will likely be his last chance to represent Canada at the Olympics. Nobody wants to see a hockey legend’s international career end like this.
