The Utah Mammoth are on a hot streak of 8 straight wins, but that doesn't faze Leon Draisaitl or the Edmonton Oilers.
Edmonton will be facing off against Utah tonight on home ice, with the Oilers still looking to put the pieces together and reach their full potential. Even though the Oilers are scuffling and Utah is hot, Draisaitl believes there's still a separation between these teams.
Leon Draisaitl calls out Utah Mammoth before tonight's game in Edmonton
Speaking to the media today at practice, Leon Draisaitl recognized the skill and success of the Mammoth, but implied that they haven't been able to have that success in meaningful games.
With a wry smile, Draisaitl's answer highlighted the key difference between a playoff-tested veteran team like the Oilers and the younger Utah Mammoth: the ability to contend at the highest level in the playoffs.
Obviously a lot of skill, a team that's feeling it right now. But this isn't the time where it matters to feel it, right? You gotta show it down the stretch.
- Leon Draisaitl
With the Mammoth's recent success, many NHL figures are seeing tonight's game as a more even matchup - something the Oilers and Draisaitl might take offence to.
On the other hand, this is also some pretty direct bulletin board material for Utah. However, fans of the Oilers and the NHL liked the sassy response from Draisaitl.
With some extra trash talk on the line, tonight's game between the Oilers and Mammoth should be a good affair - and still legitimately a good test for the sputtering Oilers.
