The Edmonton Oilers signed forward Corey Perry after a bizarre incident led to contract termination with the Chicago Blackhawks, and now one forward has made a rare statement on the event.

There's been plenty of speculation as to why the Blackhawks had to terminate Perry after just 16 games, but an official reason has never been revealed. Perry was able to rehab his reputation in Edmonton, and has now joined the LA Kings in free agency.

Oilers forward Vasily Podkolzin addresses Corey Perry incident in Chicago

Given the sensitive nature of the situation, players have practically never been asked what actually happened with Perry in Chicago - until now. In a new Russian interview, Podkolzin gave some vague details about what transpired.
INTERVIEWER: Then came that scandal, people said there was something going on with Bedard's mom?

PODKOLZIN: It's nonsense. A fake story.

INTERVIEWER: He became the scapegoat?

PODKOLZIN: I don't think anyone even looked into what actually happened, or why it happened. I'm sure there was some kind of reason, I don't really remember.

They swept it under the rug by just letting Perry go. I mean, who else were they going to go at? Bedard?

People don't really look into things. They just fall into the influence of media. It's so easy to tarnish someone's name, and then that person has to live with it for years. I really think they just cut [Perry] loose.

Obviously Podkolzin didn't get into the specifics of the incident, but it's clear the Oilers forward still stands by Corey Perry entirely, and thinks he was treated unfairly for what did transpire.
It's likely that fans will never truly know what transpires and led to the termination of Perry's deal in Chicago, but it's clear his Oilers teammates and players around the league have his back.
It'll sting for the Oilers to lose Perry after he became a great player and respected leader for the team, but they'll be fine without him - and he can be a worm anywhere.
