Oilers coach Knoblauch calls out referees for game altering mistakes
After the Oilers were burned by a missed call in Game 2, the referees were incredibly quick on the whistle last night to call everything - which again stung the Oilers. Knoblauch directly called out the double standard for too many men calls.
The referees did an outstanding job tonight. They even caught the too many men penalty in the first, which was too many men. I just wish they had been calling it in game 2 in overtime.
It wasn't the only time the referees got in the way of the Oilers in Game 3. Just before Reinhart's critical goal to give the Panthers a 3-1 lead, John Klingberg was slashed on the hands by Aleksander Barkov right in front of the referee, who then sealed off the wall and prevented Klingberg from making a play.
Not only did the ref miss an obvious penalty right in front of him, he literally created the turnover to gift the Panthers a turning point goal. From that point on, it was barely a hockey game anymore.
The Oilers earned some penalties for sure, but otherwise fell victim to multiple soft calls against and tons of missed penalties on Florida. Evander Kane called out the differential after the game, saying there appears to be a double standard.
They seem to get away with it more than we do. It's tough to find the line. They're doing just as much stuff as we are.
It's truly unfortunate that the refereeing has been truly awful through the Stanley Cup Final. The referees are once again drawing attention away from the actual game with their incompetence - and just give the Oilers another obstacle they'll have to overcome to win it all.
