The Edmonton Oilers have announced another round of roster cuts, and have officially placed 3 players on waivers.
Edmonton Oilers announce more roster cuts, waive 3 minor league players
According to experts at PuckPedia, the Oilers have waived defenceman
Josh Brown and forward
Roby Jarventie along with Hamblin.
There's no surprises with the new roster cuts as most are assumed to strictly be minor-league players for this year. However, the Oilers may be trying to sneak Jarventie through waivers early.
James Hamblin is an AHL winger, and Josh Brown was one of the worst free agent signings in recent years for the team. Both players are expected to clear waivers easily, but the team may be hoping for Jarventie.
The Oilers acquired the 23 year old Jarventie from the Ottawa Senators in trade on July 15, 2024. He only went on to play 2 games in the Oilers organization before being sidelined with injury, but he's now fully healthy and posted promising results in the past.
In 2023-24, Jarventie neared point per game production in the AHL with 9 goals and 11 assists in 22 games. A talented skater and shooter with 7 games of NHL experience, another team could see the promise in Jarventie and place a claim. The Oilers waiving him early may be trying to avoid that.
Hopefully all the Oilers on waivers clear and stay as organization depth for the coming season.
