NHL makes controversial changes to Oilers and Panthers jerseys for Stanley Cup Final

The Oilers and all other NHL teams have adopted advertisements on jerseys, which has been a slight eyesore for fans. Now, they have a major issue with the Cup Final patch.

To make room for the jersey advertisement on the right side of the chest, the Stanley Cup Patch has been moved to the left side of the jerseys. For Captains and Assistant Captain's jerseys, it just looks brutally awkward.

For just this one series, the jersey advertisements have to take a backseat. There's so many other options to move it to the shoulder, sleeve, or do away with them entirely.

It stings even more that it's mostly star players' jerseys that would be affected by this. McDavid, Draisaitl, Nurse, and even Barkov, Tkachuk - all their speciality playoff jerseys look awkward now, instead of being an amazing addition to the jersey.

The ad patches on jerseys aren't ideal, but fans do understand the reasons behind it - owner Daryl Katz is looking for more funds.

Oilers ownership has heavily invested back into the team and facilities to make Edmonton a destination hockey city. Fans just need to be paid back for their investment with a Stanley Cup.

However, it's the NHL that has to step in here to make sure their product looks stellar on the biggest stage. This awkward mess on the jerseys should've been corrected before it hit the ice for the Stanley Cup Finals.
