The hockey world clearly sees the Edmonton Oilers desperately need a goaltending upgrade this summer, but according to new reports, the front office isn't so convinced.

The goalie market in free agency and trade this offseason has admittedly been relatively weak, so the Oilers never addressed their biggest weakness. There's even been reports they could be running back Skinner and Pickard - which seems likely now.

Edmonton Oilers not seriously involved in any goalie trade talks, per insider

According to a new report from NHL insider David Pagnotta on the Sportsnet Big Show Podcast, the Oilers are still comfortable running Pickard and Skinner next year - and aren't exploring the trade market seriously.
If you believe them, you believe Stan Bowman and management, they've remained consistent in their messaging going back to the season, or back to the trade deadline, that they are fully confident in Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard.

I think they re-engaged before Anaheim traded John Gibson to Detroit to at least see what the price tag was, if it changed at all. They're up against the cap, so they feel they'd rather allocate their funds elsewhere than having to adjust the goaltending.

Other than an inquiry to Boston, I think in November with respect to Jeremy Swayman, I haven't really gotten the sense that they've heavily explored the goalie market, other than just checking in.

If this pattern holds, the Edmonton Oilers will once again enter next year's postseason with the worst playoff goaltending in the NHL. With free agent options dried up, and not looking at the trade market, the Oilers only option would be picking one up on waivers.
Hopefully the Oilers are somehow able to steal a goaltending upgrade, otherwise, their goalie controversy will continue for yet another season.
