The Edmonton Oilers came out flat yet again to begin Game 5 against the Florida Panthers, and this time couldn't find enough to mount another comeback win.
Before Game 5,
Connor McDavid came out and guaranteed that the Oilers would have a much better first period. They were miles away from a good period, and ended up chasing the game yet again.
We want to get off to better starts. Can't be chasing games like we have been kinda all series long. I'd expect a good start tonight.

Edmonton Oilers once again come out flat in first period after McDavid guarantee
Needless to say, the Oilers came out far from their best hockey. Giving up two goals and only registering 3 shots in the first period, once again, the Oilers looked out of it before it started.
After the game, every Oiler player interviewed and Coach Knoblauch stressed how much they were disappointed by yet another slow start. Simply put, the Oilers cannot continue to be chasing games and expect to pull off miraculous comebacks.
We have to figure out our first period and correct it for Game 6. It has to be better. This is the ultimate backs against the wall situation. We will make sure we are ready to go. Chasing a game over & over against a team like this, it's very difficult.

Ryan Nugent-HopkinsNow on the brink of elimination in Amerant Bank Arena in Florida, the Oilers have to recreate their run from last year and drag the Panthers back to Alberta. If not, they'll watch the Panthers lift the cup once again.
