The Edmonton Oilers dearly miss star forward Zach Hyman in the playoffs, but he's still leading the team off the ice while out with injury.
Zach Hyman leads locker room speech before Game 4 while out with injury
Even though he can't be on the ice, Hyman is still hanging around the team constantly through the Cup Final, and has been leading the team with lineup reads pre-game.
Hey, we came here for one, we're f****** getting one. Everyone in this room knows that when s*** gets hard, when the series gets longer, you f****** step up. You guys have been f****** stepping up and we're getting it done tonight.
- Zach Hyman
It's great to see Hyman still leading the team, even though he's suffered a heartbreaking injury that will keep him out of the year's biggest games. With his famous work ethic and total deviation to the Oilers, there's no more deserving player to lift the Cup than Hyman.
His speech may not have helped them to start the game, but it did work out as the Oilers mounted an incredible comeback win.
The Oilers have also then kept a trend going of having an injured player lead lineup reads. When
Connor Brown was out, he burst out of a box to lead the team in warmup.
It's great to see just how close the team is off the ice, and how each player is pushing their teammates to be better. This is the type on locker room leadership a Cup calibre team needs, and the Oilers are showing just how much of it they have.
