His mother Chantal, who is married to former NHL great Keith Tkachuk feels that he would still be on her couch if hockey had not panned out for the Florida Panthers superstar. She described that hockey was everything in the household and for their sons and no other plans were made in case of failure.
It's safe to say that hockey did not fail and that Matthew along with his brother Brady have become household names within the NHL especially with their antics between one another and the family itself. The former Calgary Flame who has stated his hate for the Oilers was famous for telling the organization that he did not want to sign long-term managed to get traded to the Florida Panthers.
His career then took off to which he went to two Stanley Cup finals back-to-back and one his first cup last year against the Edmonton Oilers.
The 26-year-old superstar played 80 games for the Panthers last year scoring 26 goals with 62 assists for 88 points and was a + 19 with 88 penalty minutes. This was a sharp drop compared to his previous season where he had 79 games, scoring 40 goals with 69 assists for 109 points and was a + 25.
No matter the case, his name is on the Stanley Cup and he along with his Panthers are preparing for another season which is set to begin in about a month's time.
