Many fans wrote positive comments towards Holloway after news surfaced that his experience with the Oilers regarding a new contract was an odd one to which he openly criticized how it was handled. Holloway wanted to stay with the Oilers and had open lines of communication but never received anything in return.
This led to the offer sheet that was sent by Blues general manager Doug Armstrong where he signed for $2.29 million per season over the next two years. The Oilers did not match this sheet and ended up receiving a third-round draft pick as compensation for the loss.
Losing a player like Holloway was a blow to the organization even though they did receive a draft pick in return. The Oilers had worked on Holloway for the past couple of years through their AHL affiliate the Bakersfield condors and spending time with the Oilers team itself and gaining valuable experience this season including playoff time and Stanley Cup finals.
But in the end, the Oilers will move on and Holloway will get his chance along with ice time and the ability to grow with the Blues.
