Thoresen officially announced his retirement through Djurgardens IF of the SHL, the team he spent his last season with in 2024-25. Today, the NHL alumni association took a moment to honour Thoresen's career.
After 3 professional seasons in Sweden, the Edmonton Oilers signed Thoresen before the 2006-07 season. He played 68 games with the Oilers in his rookie season, registering 4 goals and 16 points.
Thoresen played 17 more games with the Oilers next season before being placed on waivers and claimed by the Philadelphia Flyers. He played 21 games in Philly and scored 5 assists in what turned out to be his final stint in the NHL.
Although Thoresen didn't have a long NHL career, he went on to carve out an impressive career for himself. He continued on his career overseas after leaving the NHL, playing a total of 623 European Pro games in the KHL, SHL, and Swiss Pro league.
Overall, he's said to be one of the greatest Norwegian players in hockey's history, and that's a feat for Thoresen to be immensely proud of. He'll be highly regarded in his home country for a long time for his contributions to the game.
Edmonton Oilers fans and we here at OilersDaily extend our best wishes to Thoresen in his life after hockey.
