Oilers pushing Boston Bruins for last minute blockbuster on Brad Marchand
According to a recent update from Frank Seravalli, the Oilers are making a last minute push for Brad Marchand.
Seravalli even specified that the Oilers have been one of the previous teams linked to Marchand, and have the cap space to acquire him. However, they'll be competing against the Vegas Golden Knights and Los Angeles Kings to get him.
The Oilers have been reportedly pushing for a top six forward addition to their group, and Brad Amare hand would be the dream addition by far.
Now 36 years old, Marchand is slowing down but still can bring an elite two way game, playoff leadership and experience, and a pest presence in the Oilers core group.
Marchand has 21 goals and 47 points in 61 games this season, and paid a manageable salary of $6.125M. If the Oilers can come some other forwards to waive their no-move clauses, they'd have the space to add Marchand.
Even if there's no deal coming in the next minutes before the deadline, there's a possibility a deal leaks through after the deadline time passes.
It may be too big a deal to complete at the last minute, but if the Oilers have been connected on Marchand and started the groundwork of a negotiation before, perhaps they have some framework of a deal already. It would be a dream scenario to add Marchand to the Oilers.
