It was certainly an ugly hit from Puljujarvi. Coming across the opponent's position with speed, Puljujarvi's shoulder popped up to make direct contact with Chaffee's head.
Chaffee was unable to return to the game, and afterwards the Lightning confirmed an injury to the depth forward.
Jesse Puljujarvi will be suspended for playoff games after hit on Mitchell Chaffee
With the Panthers done their regular season, Puljujarvi will be suspended for at least one playoff game. Trying to break back into the NHL, this won't help his case.
Puljujarvi has got into the last 5 games with the Panthers after signing an NHL deal with the team recently. He had been playing in their AHL system with plenty of success, trying to get back to the NHL, but never played more than 13:01 of ice time in 5 games.
With news of his suspension as well, Puljujarvi has actually been sent back to the Panthers' AHL team. It looks like he won't see any playoff games now.
It's been a tough road for the former 4th overall draft pick of the Edmonton Oilers. Now 26 years old, he looks closer to returning to Europe than he does continuing his hockey career in North America.
