The Detroit Red Wings announced that they would recall former Oilers goaltender Jack Campbell under emergency conditions as they prepare to face the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The 32-year-old Campbell is set to face off against his old team the Toronto Maple Leafs where he spent three seasons after being traded from the Los Angeles Kings.
After having successful seasons and poor playoff performances, the Leafs chose not to re sign him and the Edmonton Oilers had signed him to a five-year deal worth $25 million.
It became obvious that the struggles that Campbell faced mentally were still plaguing him and only after two years any dreadful start to the 2023-2024 season where he had a goal against a 4.50 and a save percentage of .873, former general manager Ken Holland chose to buy him out.
He currently has a one-year deal worth $775,000 and hope that he can get his career back on track as he has a fresh start with the Red Wings. Hot October 4th 2024, Campbell announced that he was entering the NHL-NHLPA assistance program.
These last few years have been very difficult on Campbell and it's important that he gets the help he needs. It appears that he's ready to play and it remains to be seen on how well he will fare against his former club. The Red Wings have not played well all season has the team has lost twelve of its last 16 games.
The game will take place at Little Caesars Arena and game time will be 7:00 PM eastern on December 14th.
