Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg both signed offer sheets with St. Louis last summer, both for the same reasons of getting more opportunity.
Speaking with the WhatChaos podcast, Holloway revealed that the Oilers signalled to him they wanted him to stay in the bottom six - while at the same time, was being lured with more minutes in St. Louis.
It's stunning that Holloway was given so little opportunity for growth within the Oilers organization, and now playing in another system, is thriving.
The Oilers instead signed Victor Arvidsson and Jeff Skinner to more expensive contracts to play in their top six. The fit for Jeff Skinner especially has been poor, where Holloway could've taken a step and stayed in Edmonton for years to come.
It's tough for fans to see a quality player slip past the team, and it's hard to blame Holloway for pursuing more minutes elsewhere. This loss was on the Oilers front office.
He also was asked about his team headshot with the St. Louis Blues that showed a very angry and or depressed look that struck many fans and were curious to know what was wrong.
Holloway deliberately tried to mean mug the camera, and several memes and comments began to spring up all over the NHL and people began to ask questions. Holloway expressed that he is quite happy with his life and the change he made since he left the Edmonton Oilers.
Holloway has been playing a great season thus far with 45 games played, scoring 15 goals and 17 assists for 32 points in a + 12.
He's also got that uptick in minutes as Holloway is now averaging 16 minutes and 8 seconds, compared to 11 minutes and 22 seconds each game with the Oilers last season.
It's clear he is happy with his choice and will be in the Blues plans for years to come as he has shown that he is ready for the NHL and that the Oilers made a mistake in not retaining him.
