Dallas Stars players and coach Pete DeBoer are furious with Darnell Nurse's slash that injured Stars forward Roope Hintz.
While battle for position in front of the Oilers net, Nurse delivered a forceful slash to the foot of Hintz - who was forced from the game with injury and unable to walk on the foot.
Dallas Stars directly call out Darnell Nurse for slash on Roope Hintz
With one of their top players leaving the game with injury, the Dallas Stars were absolutely livid with Darnell Nurse's slash. Some Stars advocated for Nurse to get a 5 minute penalty, or even suspended.
Jamie Benn directly said that the team hated the slash, and that if McDavid was the one injured, there would be harsher consequences.
Dallas Coach Pete DeBoer brought up the exact same point, and specifically said he wanted a 5 minute major penalty. Nurse was only given 2 minutes for slashing.
Well, does anyone in this room think if
Connor McDavid gets carried off the ice like that, that it's not a 5 minute major? No.
- Pete DeBoer
Connor McDavid has taken tons of abuse on his end for years, and the NHL has never given him preferential treatment. Honestly, if this happened to McDavid, it probably is still a 2 minute penalty.
However, according to the NHL rulebook, when a slash does result in an injury a major penalty should be assessed. The Oilers may have gotten away with one.
There's been no update on the status of Hintz for Game 3, but it may not look like good news with him limping off the ice and unable to put weight on his foot.
Now, we'll just have to wait and see if NHL Player Safety decides supplemental discipline for Nurse.
