The Edmonton Oilers are on the ice for morning skate before tonight's game vs. the Vancouver Canucks, and have confirmed their expected lineup.
Edmonton Oilers reveal lineups, name Calvin Pickard starting goalie vs. Vancouver Canucks
According to Oilers reporters at practice, the team will run out the exact same lineup as Game 1, with the exception of Pickard starting instead of Skinner.
Skinner has entered this season on the hot seat after his below average results throughout last year, and disappointing moments in the playoffs. The Oilers are in a win-now window, and can no longer wait around for Skinner to find his game.
After posting an .864 save percentage in Game 1 and allowing an awful tying goal against, the Oilers are clearly sending a message by turning to Pickard tonight.
Pickard came to the Oilers as a veteran journeyman 3rd goaltender, but has surpassed expectation when given the chance in Edmonton. He deserves more of a chance when the other option is Skinner.
After losing the starter's net in just Game 2, Skinner isn't off to a good start from the challenge given to him by management.
