Zach Hyman is famous for always giving his best effort, but now Oilers analysts are calling him out for his last few playoff games.
Hyman had a career best season last year scoring 54 goals, but his totals dropped this year to 27 goals and 44 points - which are more realistic totals for him.
Oilers analysts call out Zach Hyman for last efforts in playoff games
Oilers analysts at OilersNation are calling on Zach Hyman to rediscover some of that offensive success he had last season. Through the last 5 playoffs games, Hyman has no goals and only 7 shots.
He is a worker bee, and it's hard for me to say bad things about Zachary Martin Hyman, at the same time guys, he's gone 5 games without a goal. To be totally honest, haven't even noticed him being a pest in front of the net over the last few games.
Hyman has gotten away from his offensive profile recently of being a net-front crasher hunting rebounds and cashing chaos near the crease. The fact that he's getting almost no shots off, when he used to be able to fire tons in the slot, is a clear decline.
The Oilers have even taken Hyman off the powerplay in favour of
Corey Perry. It's understandable, as the older vet also has soft hands around the net, but Hyman also is an asset there and may need the boost.
At the same time, Hyman's trying to impact the game with his physicality. He's currently leading the NHL playoffs in hits, and is letting the opposition now he's going to wear them down.
It is hard to say anything bad about a player who's clearly still giving his best effort, and Zach Hyman is still a net positive player. However, he needs to get back to causing chaos in the slot, and get back on the scoresheet.
