Canadian NHL fans outraged after Sportsnet announcement for next season's broadcasts
Sportsnet has announced a $100 price increase on their Sportsnet+ services, and NHL fans across Canada are getting fed up.
Just a few months ago, Sportsnet paid a whopping $11B for a 12 year contract extension on the majority rights of NHL broadcasts. To get that back, they're raising prices on fans.
NHL fans outraged by steep price increase announced by Sportsnet
In the age of streaming plenty of fans use Sportsnet+ to access games, which is a tiered online service to watch NHL games and other sports.
Sportsnet released an announcement today that the price will be increasing by $75, a shocking one year jump for a service that fans say isn't even good.
Fans say that the service has a significant delay behind the games in real time, lags constantly, drops below HD quality frequently, and still has blackouts.
Needless to say, with many complaints and faced with a major increase in price, fans were absolutely livid with the announcement, and declared they'll be cancelling their subscriptions.
Sportsnet entered damage control mode, even blocking fans for criticizing the price increase.
It's a ridiculous site to see after the length of problems with their online service, let alone their TV broadcasts too which are mind-numbingly awful at times.
Raising prices so high on one device without any significant improvements, in times like these where fans are stretched thin in every way, is a pure money grab by Sportsnet. The backlash is well deserved, and if they want to rehab their image, they'll have to drop the price.
