The Edmonton Oilers recently announced they had hired Michael Parkatti to be the Senior Director of their Data and Analytics Department. As a result of his appointment, a new analytics department will be created for the team under his direction.
The fans have clamored for a more modern approach to hockey in the past, and Jackson is delivering on those hopes in a big way.
Jackson is pushing the team into a more progressive stance when it comes to hockey development, so this hire is exciting, other teams have also brought on analytics departments and have done very well as a result.
As a matter of fact, this is not Parkatti's first time working with the Oilers, since the team retained his services from 2013 to 2015 before bringing him aboard today.
