The New York Islanders endured a tough loss last night, their former 23rd overall pick Simon Holmstrom was skating into the Florida zone with the puck, where he would then receive multiple hacks/slashes, to top it off a dirty knee-on-knee hit from Panthers forward Sam Bennett.
The Islanders promising prospect left the game and did not return, and is now listed as day-to-day with a knee injury. One serious thing that raises concern on this play is that not a single penalty was called, after one, two and three slashes, and even a injuring knee-on-knee collision, the referee didn't bat an eye.
The Panthers sure got lucky in this situation, but this is a dangerous collision and it would be no surprise to see the NHL Player Safety Committee take a look at this footage.
