There were high expectations that the Edmonton Oilers would have a strong start in their first game against the struggling Vancouver Canucks.

Both teams were heading in opposite directions, with the Canucks continuing to search for their identity and trying to change the course of their team, while the Oilers were looking for a fantastic season and a deep playoff run.
However, the reality of the game was far from what was expected, as it appeared that the teams had switched roles. The Oilers suffered an embarrassing 8-1 loss in their first game, a lopsided defeat that should never have happened with mistakes occurring throughout the lineup.
It seems that the Oilers are preparing to make changes to their lineup for the upcoming game against the Canucks. It is expected that Vincent Desharnais will be scratched to make room for Oilers' star defenseman Mattias Ekholm.
Oilers' head coach, Jay Woodcroft, will be hoping for a better result now that Ekholm is back in the lineup. It is widely anticipated that Stuart Skinner will be guarding the net, as beleaguered goaltender Jack Campbell had a rough start in the opening game.
With the Oilers playing at home, it's safe to say that they need to deliver a better performance than they did in game one. The game is scheduled to begin at 10:00 PM Eastern.
