Ducks star forward suffers brutal leg injury

The Anaheim Ducks went against expectations and drafted Leo Carlsson at second overall in last year's draft, and since then, Carlsson has continuously proved he was worth the gamble. Unfortunately now, just 23 games into his NHL career, the young superstar looks to have suffered a big setback.

While battling for body position along the boards in the neutral zone, Flames' defenceman Mackenzie Weegar fell down directly on top of Carlsson's leg. It looked like the leg may have bent in a direction it shouldn't have as Carlsson fell to the ice, and he was unable to move it for several moments after.

Carlsson left the game and did not return after the injury. After the game, Ducks Head Coach Greg Cronin commented on the injury, sounding pessimistic about a quick return for the young forward.

It was later revealed that Carlsson will receive a full medical evaluation today, and the Ducks will release a timetable for his return when they know more. It's a tough break for Carlsson, who's off to a hot start with 8 goals and 15 points, but this will be the first bump in a hopefully long and successful career.
