NHL insiders clarified earlier this week that Foegele didn't expressly want to leave Edmonton, but now, Foegele's clearly fully loyal to the Kings.
Warren Foegele gets brutally honest about reason for leaving Edmonton Oilers
In the
Los Angeles Kings exit interviews, Foegele got brutally honest that the Oilers never offered him a contract, and that he truly thought LA had the better team.
It's clear that if anything, Foegele was irked by the fact the Oilers didn't display any desire of keeping him on after a run to the Cup Final.
Foegele was personally stung to be eliminated by his friends and former teammates, but he also created a new bond that gave him belief in the Kings to win.
The speedy 29 year old winger had a career season with the Oilers in 2023-24, and even though he only commanded a raise of $400K, Edmonton pursued other options in free agency.
Jeff Skinner notably didn't work out, and Foegele may have been the better signing in hindsight.
Earlier this year Foegele even said jokingly that he hates the Oilers now that he's joined the Kings rivalry. It's partly a joke, but there's an element of truth to his feelings.
It's understandable for Foegele to have some tough feelings after being cut by the Oilers. He's a quality player, and will continue to use it as motivation to get better - the only problem is that he'll keep running into McDavid and Draisaitl in the playoffs.
