Some Montreal Canadiens media members are calling for a full-blown investigation into the referees in last night's game against the Oilers.
Montreal Canadiens media demands investigation into loss to Edmonton Oilers
Following the game, Tony Marinaro and Pierre McGuire wondered if there would be NHL discipline against the referees - and suggested the game was fixed for Edmonton.
My prediction? They're not going to do anything, Pierre. They're not going to take these refs away from a game or whatever. But having said that, there's a big problem in tonight's hockey game.
It was one of those games where you just got the feeling that they wanted the home team, and the best player in the world, to win this game.
Some of the penalty calls in last night's game were certainly weak, but that's a reality of the NHL. Every team deals with horrible calls, something Oilers fans have seen too.
Habs forward Brenden Gallagher said that the referees actually did admit to mistakes in last night's game - but the Habs should just flush that and move on.
Instead, the Canadiens got more frustrated, which ultimately led to Anderson's costly unsportsmanlike penalty.
In reality, the Canadiens were lucky to escape last night without any fines for their comments directed at referees. It's far less likely there'll be any investigation into the most routine thing ever - NHL refs making poor calls.
