The numbers are in for the first round of the playoffs in Canada with Sportsnet releasing their viewership numbers showing that the Oilers were the lowest turnout of all Canadian teams that played.

Sportsnet reported that over 20 million people equivalent to 51% of the population of the entire country tuned in to at least one game during the first round.

Oilers were the lowest turnout over all Canadian teams in Round One

The numbers clearly show that the Toronto Maple Leafs an Ottawa Senators series gathered the most interest as it held at 3.2 million viewers, with the Montreal Canadiens and Capitals series at 1.9 and the Jets against the Blues at 1.6 million.
The Oilers meanwhile, held at 1.5 million viewers on which is surprising to say the least.
Despite the talent on the team, and the prospect that they are a favorite to win the Stanley Cup it seems that the late start times well over 10:00 PM eastern cannot keep viewers east of the Manitoba Ontario border awake to tune in.
There's also the factor that all three eastern teams were playing in the first round which has not happened in the past couple of years with the Senators and the Canadiens out of the playoffs for at least two or three years.
With both teams now knocked out of the playoffs, there's a strong possibility that viewership will bounce back for the Oilers as they along with the Winnipeg Jets remain in the playoffs along with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Oilers and Jets could be on a collision course for Western Conference Finals

The second round is about to begin this week for both the Oilers and the Jets, with a possibility that both teams could be on a collision course for a Western Conference final.
Even though the possibility is still remote as both teams need to defeat their opponents, the temptation to see both teams face off against one another and sending one home while sending another to the Stanley Cup finals would be a great way to cap off this season.
The Oilers are still considered the favorite against the Golden Knights and with The Jets magical win against the St Louis Blues less than 24 hours ago they will now face the Dallas Stars who will be a formidable opponent.
The Oilers will begin their series at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on May 6th and game time will be at 9:30 PM Eastern.
