Trouba Trade Could Make Another Deal With Edmonton and Anaheim More Likely, Says Insider
After Jacob Trouba was traded to the Anaheim Ducks, several NHL insiders believe another move could be coming from Anaheim, with the Edmonton Oilers being named a prime suitor.
Bob Stauffer spoke with Frank Seravalli on OilersNow yesterday, and Stauffer believes the Trouba trade could accelerate a Fowler deal. Seravalli is more skeptical, believing that a Fowler trade was coming regardless.
STAUFFER: I do think there's a possibility that
Cam Fowler ends up in play Does this increase the probability that Fowler might get moved?
SERAVALLI: I actually don't think it's related at all because Cam Fowler has been available. The Ducks have been considering potential options to move Cam Fowler for a little bit of time now, well before the Trouba deal was completed.
Seravalli continued to mention that Cam Fowler is currently 12 games away from playing 1000 career games entirely with the Anaheim Ducks. Potentially after that mark, the Ducks will pull the trigger on a trade to send Fowler to a contender.
Ducks Defenceman Cam Fowler Still Available for Trade After Trouba Deal
The only difficulty with the Oilers trading for Fowler would be fitting in his $6.5M salary this season. However, Frank Seravalli did confirm that the Ducks would retain salary, and the Oilers could involve a third team.
Trusted to play well over 20 minutes a night on a weak Ducks team, Fowler has still had success as a top four defender. In a reduced role with the Oilers, he'd be in a better position to succeed, and a player coach Knoblauch could lean on.
We'll see if the Oilers decide to pull the trigger on a trade earlier to bolster the team for longer before entering the playoffs, and perhaps after Fowler plays his 1000th game.
