Top Oilers insider updates GM's set new deadline on both goaltenders

As the Oilers still sit outside a playoff spot approaching December, the intensity needs to dial up from the roster and from management. This is a must-win season, and they can't afford to enter the playoffs with this level of goaltending anymore.

Speaking on today's edition of OilersNow, Bob Stauffer reported that the next month will essentially decide the tandem's future in Edmonton - and the type of trades the team will pursue.

It is possible that both goalies could be on the move. Calvin Pickard ranks near the bottom of all NHL goalies this year, and Stuart Skinner is a pending UFA poised to command a significant raise.

While it's encouraging that multiple insiders are reporting the Oilers will finally consider a goalie upgrade in trade, it's still sort of unbelievable the GM needs more time to make this decision.

This week, the Oilers ranked dead last in the NHL in team save percentage. There seems to be diminishing confidence in both goalies from the roster. Neither goalie was even signed to their contracts hoping to be a tandem goalie - they're 2 backups.

The Oilers shouldn't hinge the next month of sample size on a decision that's years too late. This team deserves a proven goaltender in their next playoff run.

Most fans have already seen enough - it's time for the team to get a goalie already.

There still does seem to be a shift in things with top insiders reporting the Oilers are finally considering a goalie move. It should happen before the trade deadline, or it will be an entire failure by Stan Bowman.
