Edmonton Oilers linked to trading for Captain of Columbus Blue Jackets by NHL insiders

The Oilers have been heavily scouting the Blue Jackets this season, sending multiple scouts to their games several times. One of the more likely players who could be moved from Columbus is their team Captain.

According to new reports from NHL insider David Pagnotta, the Blue Jackets have not committed to re-signing the pending UFA forward.

If the Blue Jackets fall out of playoff contention, Jenner would be one of the top trade targets - with the Oilers noted as a 'perfect fit'.

If the Oilers could make it fit, Jenner would be an ideal player to add to their lineup - or any other playoff team. The 32 year old veteran has 757 games of NHL experience, and is a trusted presence in the locker room.

While Jenner isn't known for his offensive output, he's scored at an impressive clip the last few seasons. Though he's missed significant time with injury, he has 64 points in his last 100 games.

Most importantly, Jenner could revamp the Oilers' struggling bottom six forward group. Able to be used as a center winger as a 200 foot player, he'd significantly lengthen the Oilers lineup and make it more difficult for the opposition to match up - and potentially free up McDavid for easier competition.

All that said, the Oilers have a more pressing position to be addressed by trade - the goaltending. Edmonton needs to spend to insure their crease before targeting an addition elsewhere.

No matter what the Oilers should be the most aggressive team in trade discussions this season. McDavid left millions on the table for the Oilers to build out the roster, and it's on the front office to achieve it.
