Top Oilers insider reveals where team will spend McDavid's salary discount

Oilers insider Bob Stauffer is strongly suggesting the Edmonton Oilers will be pursuing a big-name goaltender within the next year.
Now that McDavid has given the Oilers a historic salary discount, the front office owes it to him to aggressively add to the roster to win the Stanley Cup - and goaltending might be next for a big upgrade.

Speaking in a new interview after the McDavid extension, Oilers insider Bob Stauffer immediately mentioned a goalie addition when asked about the team's remaining salary cap space.
Stauffer indicated the Oilers may entirely re-shape their goalie tandem, maybe even this season.
They're going to have to sign a goalie next year, because Skinner is up and so is Pickard. And they're going to get an opportunity here, this year.

The Edmonton Oilers are clearly among the NHL's top Cup Contenders with their elite forwards, defence, and playoff experience. However, the Athletic has ranked their goalies as near-last and worst among playoff teams.
If the Oilers want to give themselves the best chance to win, as McDavid has explicitly instructed with his new contract, they need to address the glaring weaknesso on the roster.
Now that Skinner and Pickard's contracts are up, and decision may come sooner than later. The team will give them time to work with the new goalie coach, but they need stability in the crease even before their deals expire.
It seems that finally, the Oilers appear set to upgrade the goaltending position before this year's playoffs.
