Top NHL insider reveals Oilers considering major change at one position via trade

For the first time in recent years, NHL insiders are confirming that goaltending is the number one priority for management in trade.
The Oilers have been without a truly successful starting goalie for years at this point, and have fervently defended the current tandem despite struggles in the playoffs. However, that appears to be changing now.

Speaking about the Oilers roster needs on the most recent edition of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman confirmed that goaltending is their biggest priority, and a short-term solution is most likely.
There's no question in my mind, Kyle, that as this goes on, the goaltending is going to be the thing that they get leaned on the most to either figure out or solve or settle. They tried changing the goalie coach.

So far this season, the Oilers remain near last place in most goaltending statistics. Stuart Skinner has had good showings, but consistency is still an issue. Calvin Pickard has struggled big time, with just a .851 save percentage in 8 games.
It's clear that the Oilers at least need an upgrade on the backup position, or a goalie to challenge Skinner for the starter's crease.
Going back to Friedman's comments, that could be achieved by trading for a pending UFA goaltender.
Regardless, it seems Oilers management finally sees the glaring roster hole for what it is, and will address the crease this season. For the first time in the last 2 years, the Oilers should enter the playoffs actually confident in their goalies.
