The Edmonton Oilers will heading into the Stanley Cup Final rematch against the Panthers without a key player in Zach Hyman, and now he's broken down the moment he knew his year was over.

Hyman took a side-swipe hit from Dallas Stars forward Mason Marchment, which broke his wrist and required surgery. However, there was a moment Hyman thought he was fine.

Zach Hyman reveals how he found out his season was over with broken wrist

Hyman immediately dropped his stick and ran for the dressing room. For a moment he thought he could play through it, but found out quickly in the dressing room that he required surgery - and broke down into tears.
I don't know if a grasped it in the moment. In the moment, you're like, 'I can play through it, whatever it is, I'll be able to play.'

Quickly realized that it was something that needed surgery. The guys came over in the intermission just to check up on me, and that's kind of what guys do when there's series injury, and I kind of broke down.

It was hard. I was emotional. At the same time you're trying to keep it together because the guys got to go and win a period. That's kind of the realization where it's like, F***, I can't help anymore. I'm on the shelf, and here to support any way I can, but I can no longer go out there. It's heartbreaking.

- Zach Hyman
It's absolutely gutting to hear Hyman walk through the emotions of the moment knowing he's ruled out of the biggest games of his career. The momentary denial that he could be fine, and the crushing realization that he won't be out on the ice is a major wave of emotion.
Hyman is one of the Oilers most important players on and off the ice. His leadership is exemplified by his immediate transition to supporting his teammates, but he brings so much on the ice the Oilers will miss against a rough team like the Panthers.
The Oilers want to rally and win it this year for Zach Hyman, just one of the many reasons they're itching to win it all this year.
Even with a broken wrist, you can be sure Hyman would be down in the ice lifting the Stanley Cup with some help from his team.
