The Edmonton Oilers are playing through a worst case scenario without McDavid and Draisaitl in their lineup, but now have got new timelines on their possible return dates.
Leon Draisaitl was able to join the team for morning skate today, an encouraging sign for his condition. However, McDavid wasn't able to get back on the ice quite yet.
Oilers coach updates McDavid and Draisaitl injury timelines
According to Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch after practice today, Leon Draisaitl is expected to return to play slightly before McDavid, but both players are still ruled out for all three games this week.
Knoblauch specifically mentioned a one week timeframe for return for Draisaitl now, which would line him up to be available to play against the Vegas Golden Knights on April 2nd.
Connor McDavid hasn't re-joined the team yet for practice, so he will take an extra while to get fully healthy and back in the lineup. For McDavid, a return between April 3 and 5 seems most likely.
The good news for the Oilers is that neither injury will hold out their superstars for the playoffs, and even that the Oilers don't play a heavy schedule in the next week.
McDavid and Draisaitl should have plenty of time to heal up, and only return to play when they're fully healthy from these injuries. Heading into the playoffs, the Oilers sole priority has to be maintaining the health of their stars.
In the meantime, the Oilers depth needs to step up to win the team's next three games, and keep home ice advantage a possibility for the playoffs.
