Top NHL insider has ridiculous answer to McDavid leaving Oilers

The biggest issue for the Edmonton Oilers heading into this season is Connor McDavid's contract status, which is causing a stir across the NHL.
All top insiders still strongly believe Connor McDavid will re-sign with Edmonton, but the longer he goes without a deal, the more people talk about the worst case scenario - him leaving the Oilers in free agency.

While taking questions in the 32 Thoughts Podcast, a fan asked about the prospect of McDavid leaving to join Matthews, and if that would be the only time in NHL history the top 2 players played together.
Apparently, Elliotte Friedman and the fan missed a pretty big duo that currently exists.
FAN: «Toronto fans are salivating at the potential of Connor McDavid coming to Toronto. Has there ever been such a case in history in the NHL where two top players were on the same team? Like one, two almost, you can argue.

Funny enough, no one on the podcast mentioned the current duo of Connor McDavid with Leon Draisaitl.
Without any need to compare Draisaitl to the other legendary names mentioned, he's at least arguably a better player than Auston Matthews. In some ways they're similar - 2 goal scoring centers who have milder their game to become elite offensively and defensively.
Matthews has the edge over his career in goal scoring with 401 total over Draisaitl's 399. However, the Oilers' center has proven a little better with his playmaking, which as him at 1.21 point per game - higher than Matthews at 1.15. At the very least, Draisaitl and Matthews are very close players, and arguably the second best NHLer.
At the end of the conversation though, Friedman recognized he may have earned the ire of Oilers fans, and reiterated McDavid will sign.

Oilers fans will want Friedman to be right on the prediction he's re-signing. Maybe it'll even happen quickly to put an end to the noise coming from the rest of the NHL.
