Oilers owner Daryl Katz gets dragged in new NHL rankings

A recent poll in the athletic has ranked Edmonton Oilers owner Darryl Katz among the lowest as he sits 22nd out of 32 owners.
Over 4000 NHL fans were polled and but going opinion is that he has an unbelievable lack of organizational stability and long-term vision.
Oilers seen high turnover in management and coaching
Since he became a majority owner in 2008, Katz has hired seven different general managers and 11 different coaches which is one of the highest in the NHL.
Prominent names had coached the Oilers since 2001 through 2017 including Craig MacTavish who was their coach from 2001 thru 2008.
Between then and the Oilers making the playoffs in 2016-17, six different coaches came and went in eight years: Pat Quinn, Tom Renney, Ralph Kreuger, Dallas Eakins, Todd Nelson and Todd McLellan all got swings at it, with the latter of the bunch breaking through into the post-season. Despite a willingness to spend which puts him in a ranking of 4th overall in the NHL, he falls far short as organizational stability, treatment of the fan base and franchise vision are sitting at 28th, 24th and 22nd.
Oilers fans hoping for a return to the Stanley Cup Finals this playoff
Despite the rankings, many Oilers fans hope that the team will find a way to finish strong and make another deep run to the Stanley Cup finals this year. Certainly the city along with the fan base would like to recapture and enjoy that playoff euphoria as the team came together and almost won their sixth Stanley Cup.
While several Western Conference teams have armed themselves with new players from the NHL trade deadline, the Oilers have a small path that could lead to the Stanley Cup final especially if all the contenders in the central division play against one another or knock themselves out by a playoff collapse.
In the end, the owners must play their game and hopefully everything will go according to plan and the city and the fanbase can enjoy it again.
