The Edmonton Oilers have claimed two defenceman on waivers this year in Alec Regula and Travis Dermott, but unfortunately, both remain unavailable to play.
Oilers defender Travis Dermott remains unavailable since waiver claim 3 weeks ago
According to a recent report from Condors reporter Ryan Holt just before the team recalled
Derek Ryan, Travis Dermott is still absent from the team - and has yet to appear in any games with Bakersfield. It's possible he hasn't yet reported to the AHL team.
Oilers insider Brenden Escott reported at the beginning of March that Dermott is unavailable due to a personal matter. It seems that matter has continued now, with Dermott still absent from the team.
It's obviously unfortunate that Dermott is unavailable to play due to a personal matter. When things extend this long, it's often not good news. Hopefully he is doing okay.
For the Oilers organization though, the absence of Dermott is being felt. The Condors are heavily light on players at the moment.
Dermott could be a great presence on their team and for organizational depth heading into the playoffs. Combined with the absence of Regula, the entire roster depth chart took a hit.
Oilers defenceman Travis Dermott unavailable to play
The 28 year old left shot defenceman from Newmarket, Canada has played 348 career NHL games with 5 different teams, and appeared in an extra 22 playoff games. He's solid depth to keep in the organization, even at the AHL level.
Hopefully he's able to make a return to the lineup soon, and get his NHL career back on track.
