Edmonton has once again been linked to a trade with the Boston Bruins, this time for 2nd-line centreman Pavel Zacha.
The report was released earlier yesterday, naming the Edmonton Oilers as one of three teams interested in the former 6th overall draft pick.
Several NHL teams inquiring about 28-year old pivot
They're getting calls daily on those guys and more so on Zacha,» James Murphy of RG wrote yesterday in an article. "They could slide him in perfectly to the 3C role below Connor and Leon. And I really think Pavel would prosper in a 3C role like that.»
In addition, Elliotte Friedman of 32 Thoughts suggested that the Edmonton Oilers could be a fit for Zacha.
Zacha has 10 points in 12 games this season and averages 17:59 TOI. He also wins 61.1% of his faceoffs, a critical skill for a good centreman.
Oilers' and Bruins' general managers have trade history
"The Bruins and Oilers have already made two trades in the last year, so there's some chemistry between Bowman and Don there,» Murphy wrote. «The Oilers acquired forward
Trent Frederic in a three-way trade with the Bruins and Devils at the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline, and then traded forward
Viktor Arvidsson to the Bruins on July 1.»
The Oilers already have three strong centremen in McDavid, Draisaitl, and Ryan Nugent-hopkins. Adding another veteran like Zacha allows coach Knoblauch to build an even stronger lineup, allowing him to utilize McDavid and Draisaitl depending on the game-plan.
Zacha is signed for another year at $4.75 million after this season. Acquiring him would require moving pieces the other way, in terms of bodies and salary. But adding him to an already potent lineup will improve Edmonton's odds of winning a Cup considerably.
