The Edmonton Oilers have been scouring the trade market in search of a goaltending upgrade, and insider Bob Stauffer has dropped a major update on 2 candidates.

Oilers insider reveals major update on two goalie candidates Michael DiPietro and Nico Daws

Earlier this offseason, the Oilers were also reportedly interested in a handful of goalies who will likely be placed on waivers near the start of the season. In particular, Michael DiPietro and Nico Daws were raised as prime targets.
Now, Oilers insider Bob Stauffer is reporting that the Boston Bruins will do everything they can to keep DiPietro, but Nico Daws is likely to hit waivers.
Unfortunately, Daws is the weaker option of the two candidates. The Oilers will only have a chance to claim him too, as many other teams will be ahead of them in the waiver order.
The 24-year old German native Daws has played 52 NHL games since being drafted by New Jersey in 2020. He's shown good results inconsistently with the Devils, but has only managed a career .898 save percentage. More concerning, Daws had a brutal .893 save percentage in 34 games in the AHL last year.
Only being paid $812.5K on his contract though, Daws is a low-risk option with a higher ceiling to improve than veteran backup Calvin Pickard. It's still possible that if there's no other options left, the Oilers take a chance on Daws.
As it stands now though, Oilers insiders are suggesting that a goalie addition is under consideration by management - and that in itself is good news.
