Oilers insider raises extremely concerning sign with McDavid and Draisaitl before Game 6

Connor McDavid guaranteed before the game that the Oilers would have a better response and start in Game 5. It didn't happen, and instead, the Oilers were choked out defensively by the Panthers.

The Oilers have appeared to be remarkably healthy through this year's postseason other than losing Hyman - as McDavid and Draisaitl still appeared to be healthy. However, now Oilers insider Bob Stauffer is raising concern that the top players are gassed.

Connor McDavid in particular is reaching insane levels of ice time in this series, playing just over 140 minutes of ice time through 5 games - averaging near 28 minutes a game. Draisaitl is in the same range.

McDavid himself only got on the board with his first goal last night, while the powerplay went 0/3 in a crucial game. It's been underwhelming to say the least.

Sportsnet highlighted last night that the Oilers average shift length is 60 seconds - double that of the Florida Panthers at 30 seconds.

Last night as the Oilers had to push back for yet another comeback win, the fatigue looked like it set in. McDavid and Draisaitl just didn't have their usual juice for the push in the third period.

Although it was the stars that couldn't get another comeback done, the depth May be the real culprit. If the Oilers coaching staff can't trust the depth to get on the ice and match the Panthers aggressive changes for fresh legs, then the Panthers' depth will be the difference in this series.

Although last night looked far from the Oilers best, there's always still hope with the two best players in the world.

They're fully capable of taking over a game to drag the Panthers back to Alberta one more time for a Game 7 to win the Stanley Cup.
