Oilers insider Jim Matheson is reporting that defenceman Evan Bouchard's contract value is dropping by the millions due to his performance in this year's playoffs.
Bouchard has become a divisive player in Oil Country, with some praising his talents as an elite defender and others frustrated by defensive lapses.

According to Oilers insider Jim Matheson, Bouchard's defensive performance in this year's playoffs is going to cost him millions in contract talks.
At least, it would the Edmonton Oilers may be less willing to commit a double digit annual salary to him. Other teams would like up to pay the 25 year old right shot blueliner with incredible offensive history.

At the end of the day, Bouchard's impact on the Oilers is overwhelmingly positive. He produces at an incredible rate from the blue line, with and without McDavid on the ice.
If the Oilers believe that Bouchard may be prone to some costly turnovers while also having this impact, maybe it would've made sense to invest in a goalie who can stop Grade A chances against.
Evan Bouchard is an elite defender for the Oilers, and if they let him walk, they'll spend years failing to replace him. Edmonton should lock him up to a long term deal, and with the rising cap, have less reservations on the salary.
