Connor Ingram left the game 7:34 into the 3rd-period, a game which Bakersfield would go on to win 7-4, two of which were attributed to Oilers' prospect Quinn Hutson.
Though the severity of Ingram's injury has not been disclosed, the timing of it could not have come at a less opportune time.
Both of Edmonton's goalies have been struggling this year, with the team pushing to string together wins. The likelihood of an Ingram call-up was looking more and more realistic.
Ingram has had his share of struggles, throughout which he has demonstrated mental fortitude and a no-quit mentality.
Following his mother's passing last December, Ingram had step away from the game to seek treatment for depression, and returned stronger for it. It was his second time in the NHLPA player assistance program.
Working with Bakersfield goalie coach Kelly Guard, Connor is accepting that the journey ahead will be a mix of patience and hard work.
«I'm building a foundation on rock bottom,» Ingram said during an interview. «That's what it feels like some days. It's a long road back...I have everything I need to succeed here [Bakersfield]. I can't ask for anything else. Now, it's on me.»
Connor Ingram has been working hard to strengthen his game and be ready when the opportunity to play with the Oilers comes.
His recent injury is just another hurdle over which he must now climb. Given his ability to be patient and work hard, there is almost certain that he will.
