Oilers forward listed as cap dump trade possibility before deadline this season

Edmonton Oilers forward Jeff Skinner has begun to turn around a disappointing year with quality play lately, but his name is still being floated in trade rumours according to new reports.
Skinner has been benched and healthy scratched multiple times this season, leading to beliefs that the Oilers could seek a trade to find a fresh start and clear his $3M in salary.

The Edmonton Oilers have some cap space if Evander Kane stays on LTIR, but if he returns before the playoffs, the Oilers will be pressed against the cap to make any trades at all.
According to Daily Faceoff, Jeff Skinner was named one of 6 players to be traded as a salary cap dump this season.
«With Evander Kane's status up in the air, even roughly $4.5 million in cap space might not be enough for the Oilers to make the moves that they want, and Skinner stands out as a player that they could move on from if they need to make salary cap space in a deal. Every other player either has too much importance with the team or isn't making enough to work well as a cap dump, and since Skinner was brought in to produce, but hasn't done so, it makes him the odd man out here.
One major factor that will hold up the possibility of a trade entirely is Jeff Skinner's full no move clause. Earlier this season, Skinner has said that he is not willing to waive his protection for a trade.
This season hasn't gone as expected for Skinner, but as last night's game showed, the best path forward would be giving him a better chance in the top six.
Skinner's defence has improved significantly since the beginning of the season, and if he can earn that trust from the coach, the offence will follow. Just two years ago, he scored 82 points - there's still scoring to be had there.
Trading Skinner as a cap dump at the deadline would be the worst case scenario outcome after signing him. Hopefully, he's able to find himself before the playoffs.
