The Edmonton Oilers got on the board with their first victory of the season, but fans are already raising one concern with the use of McDavid and Draisaitl.
The Oilers had a completely dominant effort of the Canucks in their 3-1 win, with all 4 lines pulling their weight. However, the superstars were on the ice the most by far.
Edmonton Oilers fans already worry about overusage of McDavid and Draisaitl
In the second game of the season, McDavid played 24:29 of ice time and Draisaitl played 24:11. That's after even more minutes in Game 1, adding up to a heavy workload to start this season.
Fans are concerned that if the Oilers continue this level of workload, their stars could be burned out in a few months.
That's a method that will get the stars more involved in every game, but it will also wear them out more. Some fans think that role should be to get some more depth players engaged, and allow the stars to be fresh for offensive opportunities.
It'll be something to watch over the next few weeks as the Oilers experiment with the stars on the PK. In Game 2, arguably all 4 lines looked the most engaged they've ever been, which is a positive for the coach's strategy.
If the Oilers can repeat the effort against the Canucks, the coaching staff should change a thing - and they'll win tons of games.
