Oilers coach Paul Coffey called out for glaring mistake in Game 5

Walman has been a perfect fit as a two-way player, able to make a quality pass, play a physical defensive game, and even get under the opponent's skin. He deserves to play some of the Oilers top minutes on defence, but he's sitting more than he should.

Oilers analyst Bruce Curlock directly called out Paul Coffey after the game, saying Coach Knoblauch has to step in and take control of the defence due to their deployment.

There's tactical changes they need to make on their breakouts as the Florida Panthers are completely sealing off the walls, but there's also an issue of deployment - that may also be hurting the Oilers breakouts.

Evan Bouchard played a team high 27:47 of ice time, and after that, it was a makeshift assortment of blueliners. Darnell Nurse came in a distant second at 20:18, and Brett Kulak next with 19:06.

Jake Walman has been a more effective player than Darnell Nurse and Brett Kulak in these playoffs, and should be seeing his minutes elevated beyond theirs.

Especially against the Panthers sealing off the wall on breakouts where Nurse and Kulak are comfortable, Walman is better with open ice passes.

Hopefully the Oilers make some more adjustments before a critical Game 6 in Florida, or they'll be forced to watch the Panthers lift the Stanley Cup for a second time.
