The Edmonton Oilers lost their second straight game to the New Jersey Devils today, and Coach Knoblauch wasn't happy their effort.

Captain Connor McDavid also called out the team's play against the Devils, noting that the Oilers haven't shown any improvement from their early season offensive struggles. Coach Knoblauch seemed to agree entirely.

Coach Knoblauch calls Oilers effort vs New Jersey Devils stale and stagnant

Explaining what's gone wrong for the Oilers on their current road trip, Coach Knoblauch used two words that are worrying so early in the season: stale and stagnant.
Throughout this trip we've got really good goaltending, which has been good enough it should have gave us some wins, but things are just a little stale, a little stagnant, and we just got to speed our game up a little bit more.

- Coach Knoblauch
Just 5 games into the regular season, it's not a great sign the Oilers effort is subpar and the Coach is calling his players stale.
Especially while Coach Knoblauch is aggressively moving around the line combinations in search of scoring, the staleness of the lineup is a concern.
It's still early in the season and there's the talent on the roster to turn things around, but analysts have noted that almost no players have stood out in a positive way so far this year.
Thankfully the Oilers will have another opportunity to change their fates with another matinee game tomorrow against the Detroit Red Wings. Edmonton will be looking to kick off this poor play before their return home to Rogers Place on October 23rd.
